I once wrote about my husband on my blog for our fifth anniversary, and I received some comments from people who said they were happy to see someone who is so proud of her feminism also be so vocal about her love for her husband. My marriage is an extension of my feminism, and vice versa, because a big part of my belief in gender liberation is that it will enable men and women to have full relationships in which we love and relate to each other as complete human beings instead of as gender roles. <br /><br />Plus, I think my perspective is informed by the fact that my ex-husband was, to put it frankly, a total misogynist, so the contrast has shown me that marriage isn't inherently oppressive OR egalitarian, and that it is really defined by the people who have entered that commitment.
